Religion - something that was set up to give meaning to life according to wikipedia, something that was created to control others according to some, a giant conspiracy to cover up the true meaning of.. well.. everything to others, and a rock of stability to many. i was just recently contemplating something completely off this subject in one of my trains of thought and came to the idea that religion was created to help magick along. in religion you have faith, according to K.J. bible the more faith you have the more you can accomplish, man with a mustard seed of faith and moving a mountain and all that.

when you work with chi, moving the muscles in certain ways helps you work with chi better, its kinda like training wheels for newbies. there's a video on another thread that i posted where the Buddhist explains that blood nourishes chi, and chi helps blood flow, so when you constantly work with your muscles you cause the blood to move chi, and if you practice long enough, you get your chi to be strong enough that it doesn't need blood to move. now set that concept aside, we will be back to it in a moment.

humans, i believe are built to first and foremost to find acceptance by any means possible, I've touched on this a few times in various other posts. they Need acceptance in their life, lest they feel alone and disconnected from everything. i think this connectedness helps them to realize, even subconsciously that they are connected to source, and too.. well.. everything. being accepted literally opens their subconscious to source and i think that in either order (either the feeling of connected to source when being accepted, or being accepted and thus feeling source) this is the reason for 'mob' mentality or as i have to lovingly call them Sheeple. OK now we set this one aside as well.

in religion, you need faith. you Needfaith in order for this higher being to accept you, and give you what you want, religion is first and foremost a selfish thing. you give me your life, you give me your limited time, you DO WHAT I WANT, and if i think its good enough i'll let you into my clubhouse where you will spend all eternity worshipping me in the awe of my love and power for you... that sounds kinda self centered to me, if i tried doing something like that i would probably be ignored and beat the shit out of. i digress, you need faith to be connected to the being which you worship in religion. in order to be accepted by your peers you must lead a life of faith, if you surround yourselves with other followers of your belief last one I'm going to ask you to hold on to, i promise it will make sense.. kinda.

Magick, that blanket term that many claim covers everything but God, Ala,YAHWEH, Jehovah... whatever. in magick you must Believe that what your doing will work, otherwise its doomed to fail, your pulling something into existence with your energy and thoughts, your lining up events using only your will so that it will benefit you. OF COARSE THIS IS GOING TO BE DIFFICULT, all the more so if your expecting it to fail. you cant just walk threw the motions of magick otherwise you might get something, but your own banality will kill it before it can gain momentum.

here's why i broke down my trains of thought for you guys.

if you practice over and over again, continue to try doing a push up for example, eventually you will do a push up because you have the tools to do so AND you have been using those tool since you were in the womb. but with magick unless your talented, have a co-incident that leads to something that would make you look into it, or are lead by someone else, chances are you will look into magick and laugh because your working with concepts that seem to absract or out there to work 'using the voice in my head when im thinking to make something? phsaw.'. you have the tools you just havent been able to practice it for whatever reason. Religion is the perfect medium to make someone continue to practice, even if they don't know they are doing it. you 'pray' and put your energy out there 'god i need this to take care of my family, or i want this because i feel i deserve it but dont have the means to get it, or i need help because i can't handle this and your book says you would be there if i needed you." you are trying to push your will upon the universe by a certain means.

Well if you practiced inserting you will into situations on a daily basis then eventually you would get very good at projecting your thoughts and drawing what you need to to get what you currently want. but maybe life gets in the way, maybe you forgot to pray a few days and fall out of habit, and just kinda let it go, so much for all that hard work right? just like that chi concept, the more you use it the easier it becomes to do. but say you fall out of practice, say for whatever reason existing got in the way of living. this is where the next concept comes in.

if you need to be accepted by those around you and you live in a very religious oriented then of coarse your going to try and be accepted by them and DO AS YOU SEE THEM DOING, so you see them hard in prayer your going to try, even if your faking it. so suddenly you have a reason to try everyday, at least when your around others, for that feeling of acceptedness and connectedness to source. what about when your alone, or at home away from the thing that would cause you to continually practice?

third concept comes in now, you accept a religion into your life, like those around you and now you have someone CONSTANTLY KNOWING WHAT YOUR DOING. he is omnipotent, no matter where you hide or what you do to try and avoid it HE KNOWS! well first of all your given a challenge, something exists that has not accepted you until you follow their rules, they might love you but they don't accept you, others constantly thank and praise God so you want to get in on the action, you have to SHOW TO HIM that your worth getting what you want or need so you constantly pray and do what he wants, well now no matter where you are you have a loop, you do this you get this. you have a CONSTANT way to continue to practice putting you will outside of your body, even if you don't realize it.

if you look at it from the right perspective you have a constant way to connect to source and insert your will into it. you have a constant way to continue practicing magick. no your not casting a circle and calling on the elements to empower your spell so it has a better chance of working, but you ARE calling on something bigger or different then you are to empower that thought.

"God, It looks like i'm going to come up short this month for bills and i have no way to cover, please show me the way to be able to take care of everything so my family doesn't suffer." your putting out there that you need circumstance to like up, or for a few incidents to happen in such a way that you can get what you need.

"God, there is this douche at work and i am having such a hard time figuring out how to deal with this, please show me how to deal with that person better so neither of us suffer." your asking for insight into a situation that you can't or won't gain in another fashion... sounds kinda like divination to me.

"God, someone continually treats me like shit, please stop them, i can't handle it anymore." in another article i posted i was trying to cause a compulsion in someone at work to get out of my way so i can do what they want me to do... that sounds very similar too.

"god, my father is sick, and is dying, but i don't want to lose him, please make him better." obviously healing.

before i get much farther, as my hands are beginning to cramp up, i believe many gods exist, i believe that we empower those gods by beleiving they exist and have the power they do. but i think i'm also beginning to believe that maybe religion itself was created to help bridge the concept of magick to people who couldnt understand it because of how it looks when your outside looking in. i think that it started out as a tool to empower people and give them choice in their life via more then just the physical ability they have, and that its been used to then control them and put them below others. i thinking about this entire article i came in thinking on making a simple post and asking for feedback like i normally do. it didn't turn out that way. but this did help me understand a core belief i have, and i hope it can do the same for you... i would also still like comments and feedback, just throwing that out there, conversation is always good. this is also a slight peak into how my mind runs, having those thoughts all at once isn't hard, holding on to them long enough to put them on paper in a cohesive fashion is extremely tiring. and my hands are cramping up... goodnight.

-Edit- so in the days following this post i had a talk with a good friend who made a few points about this and asked some questions. i looked back on it and realized he was right. reading it again the point i was really striving for was lost in my attempt to make a good point. so i figured i would come back and edit it real quick.

the end point i was trying to make, was that i believe religion was originally started to help people understand and use magick better, but because of the human condition it was altered and changed in to something completely different and quite possibly harmful. i therefore believe that religion should be picked apart for its uses and the remains that do not serve you discarded.

Personally, magic is an inherent physical ability of the human mind and body, and religion as it pertains to magic is like all religion and mythology, a way to explain what we don't understand. I find that religion gets in the way of magic, myself.

(That said, I'm a Christian. Again, I find everything I do from a magic perspective completely separate from my faith, much as how my physical training has nothing to do with my faith, my developing skills as an artist has nothing to do with my faith, ect. )

Well, my family is my mom, my sister whos half my age (i just turned 30) and my wife and 1 year old son. My wife knows I dabble in the occult, as does one of her sisters who played around with wicca for a while and was shocked how much I knew when she was discussing it with a friend around me.

My mom... I think she has an idea, but she mostly sees it as an historical interest in alchemy. If I were wiccan or druidic, she might have an issue, worried about my soul, but since it's not my religion, she wouldn't worry about it.

My sister is just starting to poke around with religion, so we shall see how that goes.

Most of my friends know, but then, most of my friends are one flavor of pagan or another, and the line "oh, thats right, I keep forgetting you're a Christian" has been stated to me, by a dozen people, at least 3 times each, lol.

lol. my mom knows, she thinks my path is my own. my dad thinks i'm satan, and so does his father, mother, and my aunts and uncles on his side. never had a problem with my brothers or sisters, they thought it was cool i could do pendulum readings. i think its pretty cool how your life path is turning out.

Necromancy is biblically forbidden yet here I am participating resurrecting a thread.

Ok, to be serious now...

I too am Christian and I have a very specific magick system that I have begun. For me it is not separate from my faith/practice. For me it comes directly out of it. I feel that we Christians are admonished several times in the text that our spirits are more alligned with God than our flesh and that we should listen go along with our spirits more (I am trying for brevity here). What I saw lacking was how to accomplish this, what shall I call it, the 'bringing forward' of our spirit (you might call it the etheric or astral body, I am not sure which.)

So I created a sigil system meant to do this. I freely admit that I have a porn addiction (I was exposed when young and it stuck). My system takes that energy pranic perhaps?) and uses it to suppress "flesh" so that the spirit can take prominence.

I don't know what the result will be, but my first go at it (I do this when I feel the pull of the addiction) is that I was able to burn the desire away instantly, at least.

I know what I am hoping for, it is obvious magical effects, but as I said I am christian, and I am doing something that does put God's designs before my own, so, i will just have to see what happens.
